My story

Why a 1,000-mile run?

Even writing it down sounds slightly ridiculous. But the more I’ve thought about it, the more I’ve realised the challenge isn’t just the running.

I’ve never been one for putting myself out there. But in June 2027 I’m going to run from Land’s End to John o’ Groats — just over 1,000 miles in 35 days, around 30–35 miles a day, six days running and one day off, then do it all again.

It’ll be the biggest physical challenge I’ve ever taken on. But it’s also the training, the time, the impact on my family — and ultimately being away from them for 35 days.

[Ben to write: the moment the idea took hold — when, where, and what made it stick.]

If I’m going to do something this big, I want it to mean something beyond whether I can actually run 1,000 miles.

The three causes

Why these three

01

Men’s mental health & suicide

Supporting [CHARITY NAME]

[Ben to write: why this matters to you — keep it as personal as you’re comfortable with.]

[What the charity does, in a sentence or two, and what a donation pays for.]

02

Dementia

Supporting [CHARITY NAME]

[Ben to write: the personal connection to dementia, and what you’ve seen it do to a family.]

[What the charity does, and what a donation pays for.]

Give to this cause →
03

Our children’s two schools

[SCHOOL ONE] & [SCHOOL TWO]

[Ben to write: why the schools — what they’ve given your kids, and the specific thing the money will fund.]

[A goal the kids can see: e.g. “enough for [X]”.]

The bit that isn’t running

35 days away from home

I’m incredibly lucky to have a family and people around me who haven’t batted an eyelid at this ridiculous idea.

[Ben to write: what it means for them, how you’ll stay connected, and how the kids are involved.]

The people behind it

“Yep. Go do it.”

That was more or less the response from Lean Tree, where I work. They basically said “We’ll work it out.”

[Ben to add: support crew, coach, physio and anyone else making this possible.]
